Pimobendan Tablets

Target Species: Dogs

Dosage Form: Tablets

Indications

For the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs caused by mitral and/or tricuspid regurgitation or dilated cardiomyopathy; for the treatment of preclinical dilated cardiomyopathy in large breed dogs (asymptomatic, with increased left ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic diameters confirmed by echocardiography); for the treatment of preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease in dogs (asymptomatic with systolic mitral murmur and cardiomegaly) to delay the onset of clinical signs of congestive heart failure.

Calculated as Pimobendan. Oral administration: 0.25 mg per kg of body weight, twice daily.

Main Ingredient: Pimobendan

  1. Treatment of mitral valve disease may increase mitral regurgitation.
  2. Not applicable for dogs with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or conditions where increased cardiac output is not clinically recommended (e.g., aortic stenosis). This product is mainly metabolized by the liver and is contraindicated in dogs with severe hepatic insufficiency.
  3. There is no clinical trial data for the treatment of asymptomatic dilated cardiomyopathy accompanied by atrioventricular fibrillation or persistent ventricular tachycardia. No research data is available for asymptomatic myxomatous mitral valve disease with significant supraventricular or ventricular arrhythmia.
  4. Studies in rats and rabbits show that the drug has no effect on reproductive performance, except for embryonic toxicity under high maternal toxic doses. The drug can be excreted through rat milk. No safety data is available for pregnant and lactating bitches, so it shall only be used under veterinary benefit-risk assessment and guidance.
  5. Regular blood glucose monitoring is required when used in diabetic dogs.
  6. Comprehensive cardiac examination and diagnosis (including echocardiography and dynamic electrocardiogram monitoring) are required before treating preclinical dilated cardiomyopathy (asymptomatic with enlarged left ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic diameters).
  7. Complete cardiac examinations (including echocardiography and radiology) are necessary for treating preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease (ACVIM Stage B2, asymptomatic mitral murmur ≥3/6 with cardiomegaly).
  8. Monitoring of cardiac function and morphology is recommended during treatment.
  9. Pharmacological studies show no drug interaction between Pimobendan and cardiac glycosides (ouabain). In the presence of calcium channel blockers (verapamil, diltiazem) and beta-blockers (propranolol), Pimobendan may induce decreased myocardial contractility.
  10. Do not overdose. Overdose may cause tachycardia or vomiting; immediately reduce the dosage and provide symptomatic treatment if necessary.
  11. In a 6-month long-term overdose study in healthy Beagle dogs with 3 and 5 times clinical dosage, mitral valve thickening and left ventricular hypertrophy were observed in partial individuals, which are attributed to pharmacodynamic effects.
  12. Keep out of reach of children.
  13. Wash hands after administration.
  14. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical attention immediately and present the product label or manual. Accidental ingestion, especially in children, may cause tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, flushing and headache.
  15. Dispose of unused medicines and waste in accordance with local regulations. Consult a veterinarian for disposal methods to meet environmental protection requirements.
