Ingredients & Efficacy
Main Ingredient: Mirtazapine
Precautions & Warnings
- For external cutaneous use only; do not administer orally or ophthalmically.
- Do not apply to broken skin.
- Efficacy and safety in cats with severe renal disease or tumors have not been established.
- This product may increase serum liver enzyme levels; use with caution in cats with liver disease. Renal impairment reduces mirtazapine clearance and may lead to elevated drug exposure, so use cautiously in renally impaired cats. Regular monitoring of liver and renal biochemistry is required if use is deemed necessary in these patients.
- Effects of mirtazapine on glycemic regulation have not been evaluated. Regular blood glucose monitoring is required for diabetic cats receiving this product.
- Fluid supportive therapy shall be implemented when administered to hypovolemic cats.
- Efficacy is only confirmed for the recommended 14-day treatment course in current studies. Repeated treatment has not been investigated and may only be carried out after veterinarian’s benefit-risk evaluation.
- This product cannot replace diagnostic workup and treatment for underlying diseases causing weight loss.
- Monitor food intake closely after discontinuation. Seek veterinary re-evaluation if food intake drops by more than 75% within several days or anorexia persists for over 48 hours.
- If a dose is missed, resume normal daily dosing the following day or follow veterinary instructions.
- This product is a skin sensitizer. Persons with known mirtazapine hypersensitivity must avoid contact.
- Reproductive toxicity data for mirtazapine are limited. Pregnant women are considered a sensitive population; pregnant or planning-to-conceive women shall avoid contact with the product and treated cats throughout the treatment period.
- Avoid direct contact with the ointment. Avoid contact with treated animals for 12 hours after application until the treatment site dries. Do not allow treated cats to sleep with owners (especially children and pregnant women) during the full treatment cycle. Prevent other animals from contacting treated cats before the application site dries.
- The product can be absorbed via skin or ingestion and cause sedation. Disposable protective gloves must be worn during handling. Discard gloves after use and wash hands thoroughly with soap and clean water.
- Store out of reach of children. Children shall not be present during application to cats.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling this product.
- The ointment may irritate eyes and skin. Avoid touching mouth and eyes before hands are fully cleaned. In case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with clean water. In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and warm water. Seek immediate medical attention and present this instruction leaflet if skin/eye irritation occurs or accidental ingestion happens.
